Tattoo care with Dermalize

How to heal your tattoo perfectly

At our tattoo studio in St. Gallen, every new tattoo receives the best possible care right from the start. That's why we protect it with Dermalize — a breathable, waterproof film specially developed for tattoo healing. It is more hygienic, more comfortable and ensures better long-term results than conventional bandages. Here you can find out everything you need to know about caring for your new tattoo.

What is Dermalize and why we use it

Dermalize acts like a second skin: it protects your tattoo from bacteria, friction and dirt, while allowing oxygen to reach the skin so that it can heal optimally.

Advantages of Dermalize:

  • Cleaner healing with lower risk of infection

  • Less scab formation and faster regeneration

  • Flexible and comfortable for everyday use

  • Showerproof, without softening the tattoo

  • Helps preserve colours and lines in the long term

Step-by-step care

1. While wearing Dermalize

  • Wear the film for as long as we recommend (usually several days, depending on the tattoo and skin type).

  • Showering is possible, but avoid prolonged soaking or vigorous rubbing.

  • If the film comes loose or peels off prematurely, please contact us before removing it.

2. After removing Dermalize

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before touching the tattoo.

  • Gently clean with lukewarm water and mild, unscented soap.

  • Gently pat dry with a clean paper towel — do not rub.

  • Apply a thin layer of unscented tattoo aftercare lotion 2–3 times daily.

3. Weeks 1–4

  • Continue to apply cream daily.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, swimming, saunas and heavy sweating until the tattoo has healed completely.

4. Long-term care

  • Always apply sunscreen with a high SPF to healed tattoos.

  • Keep skin healthy and hydrated.

  • If necessary, have it re-engraved to keep lines and colours fresh.

Common mistakes you should avoid

❌ Removing Dermalize too early without consulting your doctor

❌ Applying too much cream (suffocates the skin)

❌ Use Vaseline or similar products (promotes bacteria growth)

❌ Ignoring signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus — seek medical advice immediately)

Conclusion: The beauty of your tattoo depends both on the skill of the artist and on your aftercare. With Dermalize and the right aftercare, your tattoo will heal optimally and look great for many years to come.
